Do people in Manila speak English?
English is the first language of any employee you will hire in Manila. We can thank Imelda Marcos for that – remember her? The dictator Marcos’ wife with all the shoes. During their long reign, Imelda recognized that the Filipinos had to speak English if they were to compete with the rest of the world, so she decreed (dictators can do that) that everyone would be educated in English.
I know I’ll save on costs, but will I lose control?
In a word: ‘no’. You will determine what functions and people you wish to engage Extension Corporation to help you find. We have a full range of support functions available to you, including accounting , HR, marketing, design and development. Your employees will work your hours, have a US phone number, be online with Skype, have access to collaborative tools such as gotomeeting.com and Video Conferencing. You will be encouraged to visit the office; it is after all an extension of your office.
Are communications reliable? Telephone? Internet?
Yes, we have T1 lines directly to our office providing bandwidth suitable for operation of a VoIP phone system and high volume downloads required for our own businesses. Your employee’s may be given Blackberries and cell phones for after hours contact.
How safe is it in the Philippines?
Manila is a safe city comparable with any other major first world city.
How long does it take to get there and which airlines fly there?
The Philippines is a 14 hour flight from the west coast of the USA, 1.5 hours from Hong Kong and 8 hours from Sydney.
Philippine Airlines is the major carrier and the one that we choose to fly with. They operate a modern fleet of 747-400 series aircraft and A-330 wide body jets. All their aircraft are maintained by Lufthansa, which has established a regional technical hub in Manila. The PA employees are versatile, speak English and are highly reliable, courteous and friendly. Try saying that about the U.S. carriers!

What is near the office?
We are located in the heart of Makati, the modern center of Manila and the center of banking, commerce and high society. Within in 2 miles of the office are the largest and most upscale malls (Greenbelt and Glorietta), cinemas, luxury hotels, entertainment and restaurants. It’s a fabulous city with all the modern amenities you and your team will need.
How do I get around when in Manila?
Extension Corporation provides an air conditioned van and knowledgeable driver for our partners. During your working visits you will have a driver at your disposal to pick you up and bring you to the office, take you to restaurants, go shopping and sightseeing and pick you up from the bar when you are ready.
